Culture of Safety

Our top priority and focus is always the safety and well-being of our employees, customers and the communities we serve.

Safety Is Our First Priority

We’re proud to deliver products and services that not only meet our customers’ energy needs, but also give them peace of mind. District energy is a safer alternative to conventional onsite boiler or chiller plants. Our district energy systems distribute thermal energy directly to buildings from our central facilities, eliminating onsite combustion from boiler and chiller plants in individual buildings. Removing these types of equipment from a customer building reduces risks associated with handling and storing hazardous materials, such as fuel, boiler chemicals and refrigerants.

Safety and Well-being of our Employees, Customers and Communities

Vicinity’s facilities continue to provide uninterrupted services to our customer. Our systems are built to handle the unexpected, with redundancies and safeguards built-in.

As we continue to monitor all available information regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) locally and around the world, we are taking proactive actions in line with federal, state, and local health organizations to protect our employees, customers and communities. We have a comprehensive plan in place to keep our operations running as usual and our teams safe as we respond to this pandemic.

How We Maintain a Safety Culture

Our culture of safety mindset reflects our commitment to conducting our business operations safely 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This can only be achieved when every employee is empowered, responsible and accountable for preserving health and safety for themselves and others. We believe that safety is every employee’s responsibility.

To ensure that health and safety is treated as a priority and continuously improved upon, we invest heavily in safety training and ensure that safety is a daily tenet of our day-to-day operations. We arm our employees with the tools and resources needed to ensure work is always conducted in a manner that meets or exceeds applicable laws and regulations.

Vicinity’s Commitment to Safety

  • Conducting daily job safety analysis (JHA) and safety briefings at each site; Vicinity expects every employee to be proactive and to pre-plan work in order to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards or unsafe conditions before work is started
  • Empowering all employees with the authority to correct and/or report potential safety hazards, including the ability to stop work on a job when necessary
  • Conducting safety audits/inspections by Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) professionals and site management to identify risks as well as best practices
  • Employing site safety committees, consisting of employees and management
  • Engaging employees to always look for hazards in their work area and participate in developing proactive safety measures as part of an annual incentive program
  • Requiring immediate reporting of injuries, near misses, and other incidents using incident reporting software that automatically informs management so that corrective action can be taken
  • Continuously monitoring our safety performance benchmarked against similar industries and regularly updating internal safety standards to ensure safety and regulatory compliance
