Bill DiCroce was at the helm of Vicinity Energy as its Chairman and CEO since its formation as an independent entity and was instrumental in shaping the growth and direction of the company. Under his leadership, Vicinity became the largest district energy portfolio in North America, one that today is well poised for growth as a direct result of his stewardship. He was a steadfast champion of Vicinity’s people, mission, and values. Bill was also a passionate proponent and an early corporate leader in the importance of decarbonization strategies.
Bill began his career with General Electric at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where he was certified as a nuclear power engineer within the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion program. Bill’s career spanned 35 years of management leadership in operations and engineering with large energy and environmental companies in North America. Bill previously served in executive leadership roles for Veolia’s energy, water, and waste companies, including as President and CEO of Veolia North America.
A graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Bill supported the school and its Foundation throughout his life. He also was an active and committed supporter of numerous environmental and industry organizations including City of Boston’s Green Ribbon Commission, the New England Clean Energy Council, the International District Energy Association, and the Advanced Energy Economy.
We are proud to continue to honor Bill’s legacy by establishing a scholarship fund in his name in partnership with his wife Kristin and son Will to support Massachusetts Maritime Academy students. The full scholarship was seeded in perpetuity through a generous contribution from Vicinity Energy, along with support from family and friends.
Bill graduated from the Academy in 1984 and remained a passionate proponent of an MMA education. As an advocate for the school, Bill hired MMA students and graduates, taught a nuclear power course as adjunct professor, advised undergraduate and graduate programs, and served on the MMA Foundation Board of Trustees.
If you would like to join us in honoring Bill’s legacy, you can contribute to the scholarship fund by visiting the MMA website here. Once there, click on “Give today” under the donate by credit card section, and select the “William J. DiCroce ’84 Scholarship Fund” from the fund list.
As we look to the future, Bill’s legacy will continue to guide our company’s mission and values. We remain steadfast in transforming our business and decarbonizing our systems, initiatives that Bill set into motion through his relentless advocacy and vision for a clean energy future.
